Roof repair estimates: a homeowner’s comparison checklist

Use the free quote comparison worksheet ↓

Compare scope, exclusions and warranties before choosing a roofing proposal.

Before you request estimates

Gather the roof age if known, past repairs, material or warranty records, and dates of visible symptoms. Photographs taken from a safe ground-level position may help. Describe observations rather than diagnosing the source of a leak.

Ask every contractor the same questions

Which exact areas will be inspected and repaired? What materials and flashing work are included? Is cleanup and debris removal included? Who handles permits if required? What happens if hidden deterioration is discovered? Request written answers so estimates can be compared fairly.

Make a simple comparison sheet

Use columns for contractor, proposed work, exclusions, total quoted amount, change-order process, timing, payment milestones and warranty. A lower number may cover less work. Ask for clarification before comparing unlike scopes.

Before you accept

Verify the provider’s identity, relevant local credentials and insurance. Read the scope, cancellation provisions and warranty exclusions. Keep your records. Do not climb on the roof yourself to validate a proposal.

Planning information only. Home Service Match is an independent pilot, not a contractor. Service requests can be submitted for review. Quotes, booking and contractor matching are not guaranteed.

Compare up to three written estimates

Enter the details from your proposals, then download your comparison as a CSV file. Entries stay in this browser tab and are not submitted to Home Service Match. Download before closing the page; this worksheet does not save your entries.
